Job Description Summary

In support of Clarkson University’s plans to grow its marketing efforts in admissions, the University External Relations team seeks a collaborative colleague who possesses a strong blend of strategic, operational and leadership skills in marketing communications, event planning, admissions initiatives and results analysis. The Associate Director of K-12/Admissions Events & Marketing builds effective management and oversight for K-12 and admissions events as an interactive marketing tool for the University.
Reporting to the Director of Interactive Marketing, the associate director will have a specific focus on activities that advance long-term goals for admissions, including summer programs, hosting regional/national youth tournaments, admissions Open Houses and high school visits.

Position Responsibilities:
• Plan and execute all Admissions-related campus events, from small high school visits (approximately 40 per year) to four annual Open Houses with up to 2000 guests per event.
• Coordinate with the Admissions office to create and manage a K-12/Admissions event calendar for each upcoming admissions cycle to facilitate meaningful interactions with prospective students and influencers (guidance counselors, teachers, coaches, parents, publications, etc.).
• Research material for use in projects such as interviewing alumni, faculty, students or staff; writing and editing text; and creating event materials such as PowerPoint presentations and guest handouts.
• Oversee all day and overnight summer K-12 programs from start to finish, including hiring summer staff and working with the NYS Department of Health. (This position is required to be on duty while all camps are in session.)
• Work in cross-functional teams across the University to ensure successful events, programs and campaigns.
• Collaborate with other University departments on established K-12 programs and create an inclusive environment of information sharing, training and safety for all participants.
• Coordinate planning efforts for K-12 tournaments for the University and consult for other University groups working with K-12 groups with best practices and support.

Essential Skills:
• Proven ability to roll up sleeves and work hands-on to build, develop and motivate diverse teams, while working collaboratively and cross-functionally on innovative marketing and event strategies.
• High comfort-level with evolving technologies and their integration with enterprise solutions, marketing and operational plans.
• Experience in creating events that meet objectives and highlight/tie-in University brand – ability to see the “big picture” but also focus on small details.
• Technical proficiency in MicroSoft Word, PowerPoint, Publisher and Excel and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and InDesign); enterprise systems such as Web content management systems, online databases (e.g. photo management sites).
• Self-motivation, an entrepreneurial spirit, exceptional communication, problem-solving and organizational skills and the ability to work in a fast paced environment.
• Must excel at identifying problems, evaluating key issues, and delivering solutions in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment while working collaboratively with leadership team
• Strong writing skills with the ability to write in brand voice.
• Collaborate with VP for External Relations, VP for Enrollment & Student Advancement, K-12 Curriculum Coordinator, director of Interactive Marketing, director of conference and event services, director of Media Relations, director of Creative Services & Project Management, and the director of Web development to lead intersections of brand strategy across academic, community, events and news platforms, and to share content opportunities and give design/brand direction.
• A working knowledge/understanding of legal and compliance guidelines required in the management of programs involving minors and recognition of sensitive situations that require input from supervisor and others.
• Excellent demonstrated verbal and written communications and strategic and conceptual thinking skills that reflect principles of organization, attention to detail and excellent editing and proofreading abilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in communications, marketing, public relations, advertising, or in a directly related field involving marketing or written communications training.
• 2 to 5 years or more of marketing/events/writing experience
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
• Proven ability to plan and execute large scale events
• Must pass a background check for K-12 compliance on an annual basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree preferred.

Experience in higher education marketing and communications in an educational institution is highly preferred.
