Job Description Summary

The Humanities and Social Sciences Department at Clarkson University invites applicants to apply for the position of Assistant Professor. This position is an entry-level tenure track appointment in Cultural Anthropology working at the intersection of human health and the environment. Applicants should bring a lively interest in contributing to the programmatic development of Clarkson’s intra-school emphasis in environmental sustainability, health sciences, and to the university’s goals of international and global outreach. Applications from the following health and environment perspectives are especially welcomed: social justice, food, public, rural, reproductive, class/race, and/or global/comparative. The successful candidate has the opportunity to contribute expertise to the university’s MS degree program in Environmental Policy and Governance.
The ordinary teaching load is three courses per semester, including two sections of a first-year, writing intensive course focused on a theme of the applicant’s choosing. The successful candidate will demonstrate teaching excellence and scholarly productivity, as well as the ability to develop and teach a broad range of courses.

Conduct and publish research in one’s field. Contribute to the service needs of the department, university and profession.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD in Cultural Anthropology. Some teaching experience and evidence of scholarly promise.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD in Cultural Anthropology and evidence of teaching and scholarly excellence.

Physical Demands
