Job Description Summary

This position is located in Beacon, New York.
The Education Assistant will work with the Director of Environmental Programs and the Director of Educational Programming to support educational offerings hosted by Beacon Institute.

The Education Assistant will address the needs of Beacon-based 1) environmental outreach and public education programs, and 2) formal graduate programs of the Master of Science in Engineering Management program (MSEM). The position will work regular hours welcoming the public at Sensor Place, a storefront outreach and science learning center, and the Main Street Gallery in Beacon, NY.

Position Responsibilities
• To support public education programs, the Education Assistant will a) attend environmental education programs b) greet the public and interpret Sensor Place and Gallery exhibits, c) maintain, update, and enhance Sensor Place educational resources and curriculum, and d) pursue outreach to schools and other interested groups.
• To support MSEM resident weekend programs, the Education Assistant will open/close facilities, set up and clean up catering, and respond to student and faculty inquiries.
• The Education Assistant will build relationships with students, faculty, program participants, public visitors, community groups, other non-profits and institutions to strengthen educational offerings and the overall mission of Beacon Institute for Rivers and Estuaries | Clarkson University.
• As needed, the Educational Assistant will help to lead certain public informal educational programs.

Supporting Education Programs
● Support organized educational group activities at Beacon Institute faciliities
● Interact with graduate students, groups, and public visitors by responding to inquiries and introducing/explaining Beacon Institute facilities and exhibits

Research and Curriculum Development
● Develop learning modules that support current/changing exhibits in Sensor Place

Communications and Outreach
● Pursue opportunities to build educational group participation at Beacon Institute

● Work as a collaborative and positive team member, assisting others when required.

• Ability to deliver of informal education to a range of public and student audiences

Minimum Qualifications:
Include Education,
Experience, and Skills

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Environmental Science, or Biology.
5 years’ experience in educational context.

Regular evening and weekend work hours will be required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Include Education,
Experience, and Skills

Master’s Degree in Education, Environmental Science, or Biology.
15+ years’ experience in educational context.
Public school curriculum development.
Knowledge of NYS Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

Physical Demands
