Job Description Summary

The Clarkson University Institute for a Sustainable Environment (ISE) and Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (ChBE) invite applicants for a joint appointment at the assistant, associate or full professor rank to work in a unique interdisciplinary environment. Research experience with the application of chemical engineering principles to investigate and solve environmental or sustainability challenges is expected.

The ISE is a collaborative and multidisciplinary community that serves as the hub for the University’s drive toward a sustainable world. It supports sustainability related cross-campus education, research and operations endeavors. Between joint appointments and informal affiliations, faculty members representing most academic departments contribute to ISE activities. The ISE also directly supports interdisciplinary undergraduate degree programs in Environmental Health Science and Environmental Science & Policy, and M.S. and Ph.D. graduate programs in Environmental Science and Engineering.

The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering has relevant strengths in the areas of biotechnology, biomaterials, waste resource transformations, air resources, innovative treatment technologies and sustainable energy. The Clarkson Chemical Engineering program has origins dating back to 1903, with a concentration in Biomolecular Engineering introduced in 2003. Today we are emerging as a leading program in Chemical Engineering offering B.S, M.E., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees.

The successful candidate will achieve and maintain a vigorous, nationally visible and externally funded research program with a focus on air resources, sustainable processes, pollution prevention, environmental safety or green engineering. The candidate is also expected to contribute to interdisciplinary research teams that complement and augment existing expertise among the interdisciplinary mix of faculty affiliated with the ISE. Clarkson’s interdisciplinary research centers, including the Center for Air Resources Engineering and Science (CARES) and the Center for Advanced Materials Processing (CAMP) provide visibility, a network of academic and industrial partners, and shared facilities for state-of-art characterizing materials and measuring trace contaminant concentrations in a wide range of environmental samples.

Minimum Qualifications

PhD in a relevant discipline. Research expertise with a focus on air resources, sustainable processes, pollution prevention, environmental safety or green engineering

Preferred Qualifications
