Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

• Complete residential fire and life safety equipment inspections.
− Monthly fire extinguisher inspections
− Monthly emergency light inspections
− Monthly exit light inspections
− Monthly standalone carbon monoxide alarm inspections

• Conduct regularly scheduled residential room and building inspections for compliance with fire and life safety codes.

• Track and analysis data associated with residential room and building inspections.

• Assist with managing enforcement of fire and life safety non-compliance in residential spaces.

• Provide training and education to students and Residence Life staff on fire and life safety topics associated with residential spaces.

• Operate and work in a safe manner at all times.

• Actively seek out and report of campus damage and/or safety issues.

• Live out and make decisions in line with the Clarkson University values in all daily activities while on duty.

• Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications:
Include Education,
Experience, and Skills

Education:
• High school diploma/GED with 4 years fire safety experience

Experience:
• Knowledge of established safety standards, fire and life safety codes, state statutes

Skills:
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of fire and life safety codes.
• Well organized and strong attention to detail.
• Good at time management and scheduling.
• Able to work well independently as well as be a contributing member to various cross-functional teams.
• Able to effectively communicate and establish and maintain a working relationship with a diverse range of stakeholders, including students and staff.
• Able to problem-solve, suggest and implement solutions.
• Proficient computer and/or tablet skills, including the use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
• Able to work with barcoding systems and decode barcode names and locations.
• Able to function under stressful conditions and/or high volume with short turnaround.
• Enthusiasm for the job and a customer service approach.

Preferred Qualifications:
Include Education,
Experience, and Skills

Education:
• Associate’s degree and 1 year fire safety experience

Experience:
• Knowledge, training and experience in NFPA Codes and Standards, code enforcement, and emergency response.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, bend and stoop. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Clarkson is committed to complying with the guidelines set forth under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
