Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

• Performs experimental work as part of the assigned project
• Makes detailed observations, analyses data and interprets results
• Prepares activity reports and contributes to writing papers which summarize research findings for peer-reviewed journals
• Complies with any requirements of the awarding authority
• Keeps updated on related subjects and professional issues, in particular, developments in the specific subject area
• Shows professionalism in matters pertaining to laboratory hygiene, organization and safety; observes and takes an active role in fulfilling all statutory health and safety regulations

Essential Skills:

• Fundamental knowledge and basic techniques in electrochemistry, material science and analytical chemistry.
• Documented excellent track record of scholarly publications in the field of electroanalytical chemistry and/or material science.
• Experimental skills and theoretical/practical knowledge in electrochemistry required; preferred in nano-impact methods for material characterization and/or analytical method development or equivalent.
• Strong written communication and presentation skills.
• Personal characteristics such as effective team player, dependability, integrity, flexibility, adaptability, enthusiasm, ability to take initiative.
• The ability to work effectively with team members from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Requires a PhD degree in Analytical Chemistry or Material Science by the time of hire date. Candidates with demonstrated experience in nano-impact electrochemistry, electroanalytical chemistry and/or analytical chemistry/biosensing will be given priority.

Experience:
Minimal Experience:
• Demonstrated ability to perform electrochemical experiments and characterize nanoparticle systems;
• 2 years’ work experience in an analytical chemistry/electrochemistry/material science lab;
• Characterization of nanoparticle systems;
• Strong oral and written communication skills;
• Supervision/mentoring skills for graduate and undergraduate students.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong experience in characterization of nanoparticle systems, especially functional metal and metal oxides;
• 4 to 5 years’ experience in an analytical/material science lab;
• Fluent in English, able to write scientific papers and research proposals independently;
• Background in both electrochemistry and material/colloid science;
• Familiar with or rich experience in nano-impact electrochemistry and/or functional colloids for sensing design.

Physical Demands
